Custom Permalinks are one of the most powerful element required for making your blog posts more seo friendly. These days blogger used to automatically generate a post Url for your newly published blog posts which was not much seo friendly. This was usually calculated depending upon your blog post title and date. This was the only drawback which was out of our control with regards to SEO.The Permalink option allows us to use custom URLs for our blog posts. You can write your own URL for your blog post with rich keywords to make your blog post more seo friendly. This is gonna be a one of the most powerful SEO tool if you are going to use it more wisely. Be smart in choosing rich keywords for your blog post and use some best keyword research tool likeGoogle Adwords Keyword Research Tool for choosing the best keywords for your post Url.
Character Limit Of Url
Some SEO standard search engines like Google displays only 75 characters of Url and chops the remaining characters. So make sure to use your best keywords within this character limit. Use at-most 4-5 rich keywords for better seo.Bad permalink:
Recommended Symbols Usage
Standard search engines accepts only 3 symbols namely colon(:), forward slash(/) and dash(-). Where as the colon(:) and forward slash(/) already exists in the http protocol. So the only recommended symbol left to use is dash(-). We all know that Blogger used to generate post URLs using dash(-) to break words. In the same way, using the (-) to break words in permalink is highly recommended and mandatory for better SEO.Symbols Allowed In Permalink
Permalink option doesn’t allow special characters like @, #, %, &, etc. Space is also not allowed in Permalink. Only four standard symbols are allowed namely colon(:), forward slash(/), dash(-) and underscore( _ ). Even though underscore ( _ ) is also accepted in permalink option, it is highly not recommended. Using underscore in Permalink badly misguides search engines as per Matt Cutts. It is not at all a SEO friendly symbol, So never use it.
